background: NDUFB11 is a component of mitochondrial complex I. Complex I catalyzes the first step in the electron transport chain, the transfer of 2 electrons from NADH to ubiquinone, coupled to the translocation of 4 protons across the membrane (Carroll et al., 2002 [PubMed 12381726]).[supplied by OMIM, Feb 2009] Function: Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believed not to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. Subunit: Complex I is composed of 45 different subunits. Subcellular Location: Mitochondrion inner membrane. Tissue Specificity: Ubiquitous. Similarity: Belongs to the complex I NDUFB11 subunit family.
